Frequent Questions
A loved one has just died, what is the first step I need to take?
After getting in touch with a funeral director or service, give us a call on 03 5332 1469. Our Client Services Team is here to answer any questions, big or small, and support you as you navigate next steps with care and compassion.
Often, this process begins with a private, complimentary tour of the cemetery grounds. During this time, we will guide you through options for burial or cremation memorials, helping you create a lasting place to visit and honour your loved one’s story for future generations.
We can also show you our beautiful non-denominational chapel and how it can support your gathering, including audio-visual live streaming options for those who are unable to attend in person.
Following these tours, accurate costings are provided, and families can pay the cemetery directly or have the costs paid through their Funeral Director arrangements.
How do I organise a plaque?
To organise a plaque please contact our Client Services Team, who will be able to support you each step of the way. Appointments can be booked to design plaques during a face-to-face appointment or via a Video Conference link, or via email communications.
When your ready to get started our team will be able to provide you with the appropriate plaque design template for your location and offer suggestion on what is possible and things that should be considered.
Please call us on 03 5332 1469 or email enquiries@ballaratcemeteries.com.au to make a start.
Note: plaques are not an item you can pre-pay due as they are supplied by a third-party foundry
How do I collect the ashes of a loved one currently in Ballarat Cemeteries' care?
It is best to call our Client Services Team to make sure the Ashes are ready. Ashes need to be collected by the "Applicant" unless documentation is provided to nominate an Agent for Collection.
We recognise this can be a difficult step. We are here to support you with a private space where you can ask any questions, big or small, and we can provide information on caring for ashes or options for memorialising.
When you're ready, call 03 5332 149. Our office hours are 8:30-4.30pm Monday to Friday.
How do I select and purchase an Urn?
There are many options available when selecting an urn. We have a showroom housing a selection of urns, shattering tubes, jewellery, glass and gemstones. You’re welcome to come in without an appointment to view the range, and ask our team any questions. We also have brochures of the full range for you to look through in a welcoming, quiet space. The cemetery will take care of ordering and adding ashes to pieces as directed by the family.
I want to begin future planning, how do I make pre-purchase arrangements?
Our Support Team are available to assist with all future planning needs. To start the conversation about current options, please contact us by phone on 03 5332 1469 or email enquiries@ballaratcemeteries.com.au to book a free, no obligation appointment and/or a tour.
To preview some of the options you can view a selection of the areas via our Services We Offer tab on our website.
Can you help us with a records search?
