Barbara Wilson was born on the 17th February 1929 and died on the 26th July 2015. She was a hard working staff member of Wilson’s Fruit and Vegetables alongside her husband Arthur, who died in 2010.
Mrs Wilson is described by her family as having left a brilliant legacy was a generous lady and always had a smile for people. Mr and Mrs Wilson’s business grew from the orchard to the Ballarat fruit and vegetable shop and then the new outlet at Lucas. The placement of the new shop meant a lot to Mrs Wilson, who worked at the Lucas factory before marrying. At the age of 15, she started at Lucas. She was well known with the Lucas Ladies. She cut patterns at Lucas and worked her way up eventually having a couple of staff work under her.
Mrs Wilson could still be seen at Wilson’s Fruit & Vegetables up until a few months before her death, the tomatoes were her responsibility and she would go in every Sunday morning. This was a testament to her passion for the family business.
Her greatest legacy was undoubtedly her family. Mr and Mrs Wilson had seen two generations through their business, which son Trevor now runs.
All of her children and grand children have worked alongside her at some point. Everyone started their apprenticeship there.
Tributes to Mrs Wilson streamed in once Wilson’s announced she had passed away, with many people happily remembering family visits to the Warrenheip orchard.
Mrs Wilson is survived by her three children, Trevor, Kaylene and Pam, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service was held at York Street Church of Christ.
Barbara is buried at the Ballarat New Cemetery with her husband Arthur in Highview Gardens Row 5 Grave 6.
